Five Habits of Fit People

Do you know how annoying it is when people are always fit? The women who work out each day (even on holiday) always seem in control of what they eat, as if they’ve never eaten an entire pack of Oreos in one commercial break. No matter if it’s winter or summer, they always look bright and have way too much energy. You might even have a coworker, friend, or roommate whose healthy habits are so consistent that you wonder if she’s taking a magic pill or if she was just born that way (major groan).

But here’s some good news for the rest of us: there is no magic pill or genetic trait that will keep you fit. Instead, it’s a bunch of easy habits. This means that women who always seem to be in shape can have that “lit-from-within glow” and constant drive that we see in them.

They Find Enjoyment In Exercise

You might think that women who are always in shape are a rare breed who was born loving to go on long jogs, but that’s not true. They don’t like intense exercise because it’s in their nature. Instead, they find joy in exercise. Maybe they have a favorite workout, like barre or ballet, or they go for runs to clear their minds and feel centered. Or maybe they’ve found peace and stability in the daily routine of exercise. No matter what kind of exercise they do, they enjoy it and do it because they want to, not because they have to. This makes sure they’ll stick with it even when they’re busy or out of their normal routine because they’ll want to go for a walk or do a quick yoga flow.

Eating What They Should Eat Not Thinking About What Not To Eat

It’s a principle that shows up in so many ways in diet philosophy. Diet culture has taught us to pay attention to what not to eat, like “no added sugar” labels and “no fat” products. Women who are always in shape don’t worry about what they shouldn’t eat. Instead, they look forward to the foods they do eat, like fresh salads, warming stews, tasty veggie dishes, and refreshing smoothies. When they want ice cream, cheese, or Fettucine Alfredo, they eat the real thing instead of limiting themselves or going crazy on fake versions. They may supplement their diet with the best meal replacement shakes on occasion.

They Are Active All Day

Women who are always in good shape don’t just work out for 60 minutes or go to the gym. Instead, they have an overall more active way of life. Oh, and they don’t pace around their living rooms before bed to get in the last of their 10,000 steps. They move around more and sit down less because that’s how they are wired. Try moving around more without going to the gym. Even if you work at a desk all day, there are lots of ways to move around more. For example, walk your dog more often, stand while you work, try gardening if you have a garden, clean your house more, walk whenever you can, dance while cooking or getting ready, stretch while watching TV, and take conference calls outside.

They Get Rest

If you think that how much you work out is the only way to stay fit, you’re wrong. Yes, women who are always in shape know that balance, not perfection, is the key to good health. Your body needs rest as much as it needs to move, so use your rest days the same way you use your workout days. Think about doing some gentle stretching if you feel tight, or taking a long, hot bath to relax your muscles and mind. Also, making sleep a priority is one of the best things you can do for your body. You can “detox” your sleep by sticking to a schedule, having a relaxing nighttime routine, and making your sleep environment as good as it can be.

They Drink Plenty Of Water

It’s not a surprise that the most basic nutrient is good for your health in many ways. But more important than how it can improve health is that it is necessary for health. Water is the body’s life force, and every organ, cell, and system needs to stay hydrated for it to be healthy. Up to 60% of the human body is made up of water, so staying hydrated can help more than half of the body work properly. It’s no surprise that women who are always in shape drink water all the time. Not sure how much you should drink? Here are seven signs you’re not. And if you get tired of plain H2O, try adding these things to your glass to make it healthier and taste better.
