India is a place of historical wonders. Majestic India treasures some of the famous historical monuments that have their own archaeologists’ importance.
If you look back into history, India has been ruled by many rulers and every ruler has left his impression in the form of monuments, fort, buildings, Raj Mahal, etc.
With more than 1000 years of rich history, India is blessed with some of the beautiful, majestic, ancients, historical monuments. India boasts about having some of the oldest monuments that date back to 3500-1700 BCE.

Historical monuments are spread all over India. From the north, the monuments built by the Mughals to the south, the historical temples.
In this article, I will talk about some of the Historical Wonders of India that are known worldwide and tourist all over the globe visit these places just to have a glimpse of it.
- Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal is one of the 7 wonders of the world. It is also a monument that is considered a symbol of love.
Taj Mahal is made by the Mughal King Shah Jahan for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal.
Taj Mahal is made up of white ivory marble. It is located at the south bank of the Yamuna river.
The Taj Mahal is not only famous for its beauty, but also for its archaeologist’s importance. If you visit the Taj mahal you will find carvings that resonate with the past era.
- Red Fort
The Red fort is located in Delhi, India. It once served as the main stronghold of the Mughal emperors. It was built by Shah Jahan when he decided to shift his capital to Delhi.
Red Fort is one of the archaeological wonders of India. It was made by the red sandstone that gives its red aura look.
If you are visiting India any time soon, make sure that Red Fort is in your to-do list.
It is a construction wonder that holds many secrets to how a sandstone monument can last centuries of weathering. Well, it can only be discovered only if you yourself visit The Red Fort and find the reason behind it.
- Nalanda
It is located in Bihar, India. Nalanda was once a center of imparting education. In Ancients times, students from all over subcontinents use to visit Nalanda to gain knowledge.
Now Nalanda is in ruins and is under the protection of the government. 7th century BCE to 1200 BCE was the prime period when Nalanda was thriving as one of the best places to gain knowledge.
Students and scholars from Tibet, China, Korea, Central Asia use to visit Nalanda to test their depth of knowledge.
Nalanda has been in ruins for centuries; however, it was once a place where more than 10,000 used to study under 2000 teachers.
- Sun temple
Orrisa’s Sun Temple has its name under the 7 wonders of India. Its majestic beauty and alluring scenarios are more than enough to capture anyone’s attention.
It was built in 1255 CE. The best part, or rather I would say a mysterious part of Sun temple is that it is in a form of chariots. Having 6 pairs of wheels on both sides.
There is a belief that the sun gods have a chariot which has 6 pair of wheels. It is believed that this temple is made based on that.
- Hawa Mahal
Hawa Mahal is located in Jaipur, India. It is a palace that is built for the royal household women to have an outside view. In ancient times Indian women were not allowed to walk on the streets and if you are a royal then it was forbidden.
So how can they enjoy the street views and festivals? The answer was the Hawa Mahal. This is a 5-story building with numerous windows for the ladies to have a glimpse of the outside.
- Bhangarh Fort
Bhangarh Fort holds both historical and Archaeological importance. It is located in Rajasthan, India. It is one of the undefeated forts that was never once conquered.
Bhangarh Fort is in ruins in the present day, nature is about to take this fort under her arms. This fort is desperately preserved by the Indian government.
This fort was a place where people lived together. If you ever visit Bhangarh fort, while entering from the main entrance you will be able to see Hanuman temple, Ganesh temple, and Someshwar temple.
- Qutub Minar
Qutub Minar is the tallest brick minaret, reaching to a height of 240 feet. It is located in Delhi, India. It was built in 13 the century by Qutub al-Din-Aibak, Founder of Delhi sultanate.
It is the only brick monument (that too with such heights) that has survived for this long.
If you ever visit India, do point it down to visit this seminar and if possible, have an inside look of it.
- Ajanta and Ellora caves
A cave that holds most of its mystery inside herself. This cave is located in the northern part of Maharashtra.
This cave is formed by 34 small caves that date back to the 6th – 11th century AD, and 29 Ajanta caves date back to the 6trh century AD.
The cave of Ajanta is all Buddhist while, on the other hand, Ellora is a mix of Buddhist, Jain, and Hindu.
The heavenly Kailash Temple is a part of the Ajanta temple. The astonishing fact about this temple is that it is been carved out of a single rock.
- Victoria Memorial
It is located in the city of joy, Kolkata (former name Calcutta). This monument is made of pure white marble. This monument was once held by the Victoria queen. When she came to India to rule over it, this monument was made on her name.
At present, Victoria memorial is a place for youngsters to hand out. The beautiful garden attracts people from all around, the stone path is something new itself, and the main monuments act as a museum which holds treasures of the British rule.
- Mehrangarh Fort
This fort is located in Jodhpur, India. It is located 400 feet above sea level. It was one the for that was never once conquered.
The whole fort is made up of rock. Everything has been chiseled down to form the buildings.
If you want to visit this fort you have to do trekking of 300 m or you can a roundabout tour that is around 5km.
Conclusion
Visiting places that have its own mysterious aura surrounding the monuments is the best feeling. A place holding mysteries, treasuring unknown variables, has a different vibe altogether.
If you are a person who prioritizes adventurous above all, then these are places that you can never miss.
