With the world out of balance, we’re all trying to find a new normal. There’s no point complaining and wishing we could go back to a time before the coronavirus pandemic changed everything. Finding ways to adapt and overcome is the only way to move forwards.

For parents of schoolchildren, this could mean teaching them from home. Although you are inevitably already balancing your work and family commitments, you can’t put a price on your child’s education. With schools still closed and their studies more or less on hold, it’s time to take their learning into your hands.

Home-schooling can be a highly effective way of continuing education and ensuring you set them up to resume their studies when they eventually return to school. The home can be just as powerful a classroom. Homeschooling isn’t a new phenomenon. When creating a home education plan for your child, the internet is your best friend. If your little one needs to learn their multiplication tables or your chemistry student needs help to determine if each molecule is polar or nonpolar, there are resources available. Interactive online learning through quizzes, videos, and practical assignments is a great way to get them learning in fun new ways.

Bring the outdoors inside

Even though you can’t go outside, you can still find new ways of experiencing the outdoors. Many businesses that usually rely on foot traffic are finding new ways of attracting customers. You can find plenty of free virtual tours online that will help further your child’s learning. Make physics more fun by taking a trip around the science museum together or help them learn about animals with a tour of a zoo or aquarium.

Get creative

Homeschooling your children amidst a global pandemic is never going to be a conventional learning experience, so don’t feel you have to stick to tried and tested learning methods. Get creative with your teaching and inject a little bit of fun into the proceedings. The everyday items you have lying around the house can be brought in to help you. Find out how you can use household objects to create science experiments or teach your kids about the effects of plastic pollution in the ocean. Don’t be afraid to get wild and wacky with your ideas.

Helping your children to carry on with their education as normal while stuck at home is never going to be easy. But with the right resources and support, you will be able to set them up for success once they return to school. And they might just have a little fun along the way!
