Interior Inspiration: The Most Extravagant Celebrity Homes

Celebrities are often known for their extravagant lifestyles but the ultimate example of this is often their homes. You don’t have to be a celebrity to decorate like one.  Find inspiration for your home by checking out these extravagant celebrity homes

Neverland Valley Ranch

Michael Jackson bought and renovated a ranch in Santa Barbara, California, renaming it Neverland Valley Ranch in reference to one of his favorite children’s fairy-tale characters Peter Pan. Michael designed the ranch to be a fairy-tale, dream-like destination for disadvantaged children, whom he regularly invited to visit. As well as the main residence where Michael lived, there were a number of guesthouses, games rooms, lounges, a museum and art gallery, a movie theatre, basketball court, amphitheater, and a massage therapy center.

But most famous are the many outdoor attractions on the ranch. These include a train that takes you all around the ranch, complete with the station, various lakes and gardens, a teepee village, a nature reserve, a variety of different fairground rides including a Ferris wheel, carousel, and bumper cars, and a petting zoo including elephants, tigers, and giraffes.

Playboy Mansion

The Playboy Mansion was owned by Hugh Hefner, owner of Playboy magazine. The mansion was famous for hosting many notorious parties frequented by A-list celebrities and being home to women known as Playboy Bunnies who were paid to live there for short periods of time, and who were or later became famous glamour models. The mansion itself is 20,000 square feet and includes the kind of features you come to expect from celebrity homes, such as games rooms, wine cellars, basketball courts, home cinemas and a multitude of guest rooms. Contact these Home Theatre Installers if you’ve been inspired by these for your own home. But it was the external areas which were the most notorious. The parties were largely held outside and the grounds had been designed specifically for hosting these wild events. There is a huge swimming pool that curves around the outside of the house with a waterfall, an inbuilt patio/barbeque area, a sauna and the famous ‘grotto’ which is a cave-like structure with a small indoor pool and hot tub inside. Other features include an orchard, a forest, and an aviary.

Xanadu

Xanadu is an estate in Medina, Washington that belongs to Microsoft owner Bill Gates, and it is the largest private residence in the whole of the United States, worth $120 million. Gates built the house from scratch using Douglas Fir Trees, after buying the land in 1988. As you would expect, Xanadu features a range of futurist technologies including wearable devices that allow users to adjust things like lighting and music. Speakers are integrated into the walls invisibly too which, at the time, was revolutionary. There are even monitors that can adjust the environmental conditions surrounding a maple tree that Gates particularly loves. Other features of the house include 6 kitchens, 7 bedrooms, a huge library, and a 60-foot pool with indoor and outdoor sections and an underwater sound system.

  1. It never ceases to amaze me how extravagant they can be. I often struggle over tiny understated details, and fret… is this yellow throw too bright… is this picture too big… so it blows me away!

  2. These are definitely some extravagant and crazy homes! I personally wouldn’t be able to relax In these houses, lol! Thank you so much for sharing though, it is fun to read about.

  3. I’m of a certain opinion when it comes to extravagance and lavishness of homes… That once a certain point is reached, it all seems a bit, well, over the top. Unnecessary, one might say. (Please note that I’m not necessarily referring to the homes or public figures featured in this post, or even of celebrities [and their homes] in general.) I think that there is a difference between a “house” and a “home,” and that for me, I’m not a big fan of when the former becomes more a showcase of wealth and status than anything else.
