Seasonal allergies are well on their way with the changing of the seasons. Spring is not the only season that causes allergies. Fall can bring on watery eyes and runny nose as well. Pollen is still alive and well during the fall. If you experience fall allergies and you never know how to prepare, here are some ways that can help you manage your allergies.

Examine Pollen Levels

When you know how high or low your pollen levels are in your area, you can decide if you want to take a chance spending time outdoors or not. If there are high levels of pollen outside, you may want to rethink or limit your time spent outside. There may be times where you have to be outside, just make sure that you try to avoid going outside in the morning as this is when the pollen levels are at their highest.

Wear Protective Clothing

It is recommended when you go outside to protect yourself by wearing long sleeves, pants, a hat and sunglasses. The protective clothing helps keep pollen off your skin and out of your hair and eyes. If you are someone who does a lot of yard work, like raking leaves, make sure that you also wear a mask. Pollen and mold from the leaves can also trigger your allergies.

Remove The Pollen

This sounds like an obvious solution, but it rings true. After you spend time outside, make sure that you wash your hands and your hair as soon as possible. You should also take off your shoes before you come in the house. It is also recommended that you change your clothes in the doorway. By following these precautions, you will reduce your allergen exposure inside the house.

Use A Dehumidifier

A dehumidifier is great for people who are sensitive to mold or dust. Dust mites and other mold organisms thrive in humid climates. If you utilize a dehumidifier, keeping the humidity low, you will not have to worry about the spread of mold. It is recommended to keep your humidity levels below 45 to 35 percent.

Use An Air Conditioner

If you are not able to use a dehumidifier, you can just turn on the air conditioning as it also removes moisture from the air. Using the AC in your bedroom is the best place because you spend a lot of time in your room. You also sleep there for up to eight hours every night. Because you spend so much time in there, it is imperative that you keep your bedroom pollen and allergen-free.

Take Your Medication

Some people have really bad allergies that require a doctor’s prescription to manage their symptoms. If you are one of those people, make sure that you take your medication as directed by your doctor. Taking your medication is the easiest way to keep your allergies at bay. If you are using over-the-counter medication, make sure that you take those medications as directed on the packaging. Thanks to advanced medicine, lots of allergy medications will not make you drowsy.
